이 오래된 음식점이 1654년에 처음으로 이곳에 문을 연
Three Tuns Lodging House로부터 비롯됐다는 사실은 놀라웠다.
현재의 크리스탈 팰리스는
1850년대 초에 그 오래된 숙소에 문을 열고 영업을 시작한 후로 오늘에까지 이르고 있다.
1935년 최상층은 철거되었고, 1981년엔 지하에서 수많은 유골과 모자이크 등 로만 유적이 발견되었다.

전설에 따르면 이 건물의 뒷마당에 우물을 파던 인부가 샘솟는 온천을 발견하였다 전한다.
어쩌면 인근의 로만 바쓰의 온천 원탕이 이곳일지도.
